Valerie Harrison was born in Kitsilano, Vancouver and attended UBC. Her first degree was in Anthropology and Fine Arts. Her career path was in Cultural Resource Management and she worked for the Heritage Conservation Branch in Victoria, and the McMichael Canadian Collection in Ontario. Choosing to go overseas she worked with CUSO in Cultural Affirmation and Sustainable Development in the South Pacific.
Upon returning to Canada she completed a Multicultural Education Degree at UBC and began working with mostly ESL students in Vancouver, before again going overseas to work in Cuba, Egypt, Honduras, and Vietnam. She loves travel, reading, cooking, sewing, designing, gardening and architecture. She came to visit her daughter, Naomi who also teachings at the school and decided to stay.
