After 27 years in the classroom mostly in Chilliwack, BC, I returned home to take on a Vice Principalship last year. This year, I took over as Principal of BBCS. My career has been mostly at the senior secondary level, but I have worked with elementary and middle school teachers as part of training student teachers in my role as a faculty associate. I have a masters degree in curriculum and instruction and a professional diploma in curriculum and administration. Aside from all that, I have a sincere commitment to helping to make a difference for the children of Bella Bella Community School.
We had a minor setback to our startup this year, but from the first day, we have never looked back. We have added several wonderful new members to our staff; many of whom travelled far to teach in our school. Students have embraced the new year with enthusiasm and cooperation. In all, it is a wonderful teaching and learning environment
As principal of BBCS, I want to see students stay in school long enough to graduate with plans to take on a job in the community or to attend post-secondary school if they so wish. In order to see that kind of success, we will work with students while they are in the building. In order to provide consistent instruction and feedback on their learning, I need to enlist the support of parents and grandparents to help get students to school every day on time. I also need parents to talk to children about what they are interested in and where those interests might take them.
In addition to a lineup of teachers and teacher assistants, we have several specialists who provide support to students. They include learning support in the elementary and secondary wings and a counsellor dedicated to the elementary school. In the high school, we have a career advisor and a high school counsellor. As well, our staff works regularly with private consultants and also trained coaches from FNESC in areas such as literacy, numeracy, speech pathology, and special education. Our professional development days focus on building capacity for staff to be aware of research proven strategies and interventions to support student learning. Ultimately though. the most influential supports are parents and grandparents. We look forward to working with you to ensure success for your children, our students.
It is my pleasure to,work with parents and community members to ensure the success of the students at Bella Bella Community School. Feel free to contact me by phone or by email or in person.
